March 1^st, World Day of Civil Defense

World Day of Civil Defense is celebrated on March 1^st of each year.

This day was established in 1931 at the initiative of several countries, when the French General of medical services Georges Sen-Pol founded the International Association of the Geneva Zones. This organization later became the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO). This organization serves to safe guard property and the environment from natural or manmade disasters.

This special day is celebrated by the 50 member countries including Russia.
