Anastasia Web service got coverage in Maine-state news devoted to online-dating and international marriage brokers. Nowadays people can order everything in internet from computer games to a wife. And that is true – a mail order bride is just a click away. The industry is blooming, we witness a large number of marriage agencies or “brokers” throughout the country. So why are we “in to Russia for love”? – 2WLBZ news presenters try to answer the question.
You never expect what you can find right in your own backyard. Here, at eastern Maine AnastasiaDate at Bangor, Maine is billing itself as the largest Russian-American introduction and romance tour company. So does it really meet the claim?
It offers men thousands of Russian brides to choose from. Men can look at photos of these women, write to them, pay for phone call and interpreter. They can even go on a romance tour where dozen or so men meet thousands of beautiful receptive women in one night. AnastasiaDate provides promotional video of its “socials”. It says that Russian women are feminine, family-oriented and unlike American women they are comfortable with their femininity. They expect their man to be the head of the family and see themselves as pleasers. Not all international couples have marital bliss – it’s true. But that’s not to say these relationships don’t work out. Take a look at David Russell and his wife Olga. Six years ago they were worlds apart.
David was divorced and not into the bar scene: “I wanted to find a wife who would be more interested in her family than in her carrier”. At the same time in Russia Olga was looking for a husband: “When Perestroika” started and our curtains fell down we found out that in different countries there are lots of good, kind, decent men that you can find and make a family with”. A Russian bride match-making service suggested Olga look for an older man. David on the other hand had no interest in finding a young bride: “I think anybody my age who is looking for a twenty-year old is looking for a future of trouble”. Eventually the two began e-mailing. They did so often for about three years. Then decided it was time to meet. They married six months later. That was more than five years ago. “I felt confident that I have found myself a good wife. But I didn’t expect the level of sharing on both ends”- says David. Olga admits that marriage to David was everything she dreamed: “I have freedom. I married David and it’ so great!”
