Russia’s historical legend Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna made the name famous at the center of a long- running mystery surrounding the Russian Revolution of 1917. Born into the House of Romanov in June 1901, Anastasia was the youngest daughter to Alexandra Fyodorovna and Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia. With three older sisters and a younger brother, Anastasia grew into a lively and sociable child eager to be involved in all her family’s activities. The blue-eyed Anastasia knew how to charm and displayed above average intelligence boosted by an excellent education. Anastasia was everything to be expected of a gifted and gracious lady of nobility who was fast becoming a radiant young woman.
The Russian Revolution was to change her life forever and give birth to the mysterious legend that surrounds the name Anastasia. Following the tragedy of the Romanov family, rumors spread that Anastasia had been rescued from the perils of the Revolution in a thrilling dash across the borders where she sought refuge abroad. This tale of daring escape and enforced migration of a regal young lady has been the subject of a collective imagination and intense debate ever since.
Over the years a number of women have claimed to be the liberated Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna, although none of these fascinating stories were ever substantiated.
